Prioritizing Public Safety

Additional Information

In 2024, Corcoran was again listed in the top-10 safest cities in Minnesota according to Safeties.com.  Since I took office in 2021, we have been listed among the top-10 due to the amazing work of our Police Department.  I remain committed to ensuring our Police have the resources, staffing and support on Council to continue keeping our community safe.

Implemented the First of its Kind Recruitment and Retention Policy for our Police Officers, which has become a template for many other cities across Minnesota.  This policy, along with the culture of supporting our officers that our community has cultivated in Corcoran, has already started to help us recruit new, qualified officers and keep them with the City of Corcoran. In a particularly difficult hiring environment, this is incredibly important!

IN THE NEWS: Crow River News - "Corcoran Police Department to offer benefits to recruit new officers" March 2, 2023

Negotiated a successful 3 year labor agreement in 2022 with the Police Officers Union and the City of Corcoran.

Approved purchasing updated internal record keeping software for PD to improve administrative efficiency

Continuing our K9 Program

After our first K9 officer - Zeke - retired in 2023, we began exploring options to continue the program by identifying potential grant funding and state public safety aid dollars to help pay for the canine and training.  Stay tuned for an exciting update later this year!

Implemented Flock ALPR Cameras

  • Flock ALPR Cameras will soon be key tool for helping our officers quickly identify and locate stolen vehicles, or vehicles suspected to have been used in a crime, if they enter our city. This system will give our officers another tool to help prevent crime in our community.

If I get out of line... our PD puts me in my place pretty quick!
